Ultima 9: Ascension Torrent PC Download dropped in ’99 and was supposed to be the big finale for the Ultima series everyone knew and loved. It was Origin Systems that whipped this up, and they buddied up with Electronic Arts to spread it around. They were trying to give the series a fresh look with some cool 3D action, right? But the thing is, it was supposed to keep that old-school RPG feel that we all love, you know, to keep it epic. But let’s be real, it didn’t exactly blow everyone’s minds.  Some people were like, “Meh, not what I was hoping for.”

Gameplay

So, how did they change the gameplay? Well, they switched things up and made it so you’re running around as the Avatar in the third person, slamming into battles in real-time.  They also had this skill-building deal where you could make your character better by fighting and learning new stuff. It was like going to hero school but with more fighting.

Storylines

But, exploring the game was kind of a mixed bag. They had this giant 3D world of Britannia to play in, and that was pretty neat. You could talk to NPCs and go on side quests, just like the good old days. But some parts felt like the world was a bit bare like it was missing some of that sweet, sweet Ultima magic.

The story’s all about the Avatar coming back to find Brittania in a real mess with some bad guys called the Guardians running the show. It’s all about light versus dark and trying to set things right again, but people weren’t feeling it. The ending was a real head-scratcher too. It just kind of… ended. And not in a cool, “Whoa, what just happened?” way.

Graphics and Sound

Now, let’s talk graphics and sounds. For ’99, it looked pretty good. The world was in 3D, and that was a big deal back then. But, when you checked out the characters, they weren’t exactly winning any beauty contests. They looked a bit like cardboard cutouts trying to play in a fancy 3D world.

The music though, oh man, that’s where it’s at. Jeremy Soule slapped down some tracks that hit the spot.
